How it all started
Not so long ago… web designers would design variations of the same website and add additional code to the original website to detect what device was being used by the visitor to view the website.
This code would detect the resolution of the device and subsequently redirect the user to another website. However this does not constitute responsive design, albeit effective, if you have the time to develop a number of website.
Therefore the general idea for responsive design is that the website responds without redirecting but resizing automatically to the device used to view the website.
